  1. complain to the council, they should not allow a flat/house to be rented out that is unhygienic. xx

  2. Do you have a rental agreement? If so, see what the terms of the agreement are. Your landlord owns the property and should be responsible for keeping it pest-free. If there is no agreement, contact the landlord IMMEDIATELY. Both bugs and rats carry germs, are dangerous to small children, and can contaminate your food. I agree that the bug bomb is a great idea but you should not have to pay for it! If you do, keep your receipts and submit copies to your landlord for reimbursement or discount from your rent.

Your health and safety are most important. If you believe your room is unsuitable to live, GO BACK TO YOUR PARENTS place right away and find somewhere else.

  3. Go to a supermarket and get those bug bombs.

Go back to the apartment, seal all the windows and doors and release the bombs and get out of the apartment. Leave it over 24 hours and be ready to clean up.

  4. If your only renting a room what do other people that live there think? Of course you should tell the landlord. For bugs I'd probably just buy some spray and take care of it myself, but if there are rats, I'd be back home in a heart beat. If the house has rats it should be reported to the city's Board of Health

  5. tell the landlord about it now, but stay at someone else's place for awhile.  if it doesn't get fixed ASAP, then move out for good.

  6. yes, it's best for you to move back home

  7. As a landlord, my first question is did you create the problem? Most of the time I find roaches it is the tenant’s dirty habits that originates the problem. You will not believe some of the infestations I've seen.

My advice is to clean your place. Move the stove and fridge and clean behind them and clean the exterior of the appliances. Remove all of your dishes and clean the cabinets, internally and externally. Clean the kick-boards underneath the cabinets. Clean the sink and cabinet top EVERY DAY.

Clean your carpets. Food gets ground into it them and vacuuming will not clean it. Remove the register vents, if any and clean them and vacuum down them as far as your hose can reach.

Empty your garbage EVERY DAY. Do not let it set over night.

Wash your draperies, clothes and bedding. If you have an infant, put the dirty diapers in a plastic bag and store them someplace else. If disposable, throw them out EVERY DAY.

These procedures are mandatory FIRST, if you are to rid the infestation yourself. Then go to the store and purchase some COMBAT roach bait. It will look like a small caulking gun. You will squeeze out a little bait behind the stove and fridge, in cracks in the cabinets behind your dishes, under the sink, etc., etc.

The bait is not hazardous to humans, but you don't want to eat it either. The roaches will actually eat it, die and then be eaten by other roaches and poison them as well.

The thing to remember is KEEP YOUR PLACE CLEAN.

Now, if you keep your place clean, AND you live in an apartment complex, it can and most likely is a neighbor.

You will have to contact the landlord for a professional extermination. When roaches cover several apartments, it can be hard to get rid of them without professional help. They will just run into another place then re-infest the old apartment.

In the end, even that won't get rid of them totally if one of the tenants is dirty, doesn't empty the trash or has a filthy stove.

I've seen tenants actually carry the roaches with them when they moved in.

    Good Luck

  8. You should totally tell the landlord about it. The Landlord has a responsibility to make sure you are living in a "livable" place comfortably. The Landlord has an obligation to remove all pests such as roaches, bugs and rats.

  9. .    Freedom is sometimes worth the bother of pests.  Only you can decide.  Maybe you should give 30 days notice and move back home.
