  2. CLEAN IT.

    The reason a tape deck eats tape is a dirty pinch roller.

    Use 91% isopropyl alcohol, do not use rubbing alcohol with mineral oil in it.

    Using a Q-Tip, scrub the pinch roller until it is clean again.
