Question:

What to do if the color came off of a corian countertop?

Hello we just bought our home a little over a year ago, and the previous owners had installed brand new corian countertops. A few months ago I noticed that the folds in the corner were starting to lose color, but not enough for anyone but me to notice. Then last month right in the middle of the counter the color was gone, kind of in a ring shape (like a cup) but we didn't have anything there. I only use dishsoap to wipe the counters so I am not sure what happened. Now it looks horrible and we don't have the money to replace it. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  1. This is quite puzzling indeed.  Corian is a solid color material, meaning the color is NOT just applied to the surface, but DOES go all the through the thickness.

Corian does get stained by certain things and there have been cases of slight color imperfections that appeared as streaks.  I have not heard of an imperfection that was ring shaped though.

You already have a plausible answer to the corner color changes, so I will not address that.

Sounds to me as if the previous owners had something stain the counter top and affected a cover up with a color agent of some sort and what you are seeing now is the stain "ring" as the color agent has deteriorated.

Bite the bullet and do one of two things;  either live with it ( it should not get any worse ), OR, call a cabinet shop that is a certified Corian installer ( their yellow pages ad will indicate such ) and have an installer come by to look at it.

One of the features that made Corian so attractive is the ability of the product to have stains and burn marks buffed out.

    Hope this helps.

helps you pick a countertop and choose what's best for you.

  3. I dont think you have Corian, it probably an off brand and it sounds like sun fade, if it is Corian its still under warranty

  4. Does it look like a white spot? When they installed it, they may have used white caulking in different places to glue it down. Thats just a guess, and not a very plausable one at that. But with no picture everyone is going to be in the dark with this one, unless someone has had the ''exact'' same thing happen and had positive results figuring out just what it was. l'll look later and see if you added a picture. Good Luck !
