What to do if you are in a car accident?

I know of two people that were in car accidents that were not their fault. One was where a driver was following to close and hit the back of her car. The oher the driver failed to yield right of way. When the officers showed up they told both of them the persons information would be on the police report and neither of them got the insurance information from the at fault driver. Has this changed now the officers are getting insurance information?

  1. Has what changed??

The info should be on the police report.

  2. You should really get the plate number of the vehicle at the very least, but should also copy down everything from their driver's license and get insurance info.  You should also see if you can find any witnesses in case the other party changes their story (who ran the red light?).

It is best to get all the information you can when you can, in case some detail is missing.

  3. Give all the information you have to your insurance company.

  4. If you ever need insurance with competitive rates, call GEICO at 1-800-342-9070 for a free rate quote and give them promotion code 97950.

  5. The officers are getting the insurance information. This is because insurance is mandatory in most states and they check to make sure you have insurance and that it is valid. If you don't you will then receive a ticket even if you are not at fault in the accident.
