  4. Go to Cinqua Terra.. coolest place I went in Italy!

  5. I had to laugh at the suggestions that you come to Italy just to visit Gardaland. Yes, Lake Garda and the surrounding area is lovely and, if you have your own transport, it is possible to make day trips to see other interesting, beautiful places like Verona and Venice.

But I really don't think Gardaland (or any of the several other theme-parks clustered near it) merits a trip to Italy. Italians - most of whom never leave Italy when on vacation - think they're fantastic, but if you're in the USA and you want a theme-park vacation, it will be cheaper and you'll have a much better time if you go to one in Orlando, Los Angeles, etc. If you're in Britain, go to Alton Towers or Disneyland Paris; apart from the almost guaranteed sun, Gardaland has nothing on those places.

Asking "What to do in Italy?" is not much different to asking "What to do in the USA?" The answer to that could be: visit the Grand Canyon, see the autumn colour in New England, visit the original Disneyland, see Manhattan from the top of the Empire State Building, go whale watching off the Alaskan coast, wander around a county fair in Iowa or get a tan on Miami beach. Similarly, the answer to someone asking "What to do in Britain?" could be to visit the Tower of London, go hiking in the Lake District, go surfing off the coast of Cornwall or take a tour of the Scottish Highlands.

Italy is a big country and there's lots to see and do, but sensible advice depends on knowing the sort of things you want to do, how much time you'll have and when you'll be visiting.

  6. There is so much to see and do in Italy , that you can spend your whole live here , and will still not have seen all of it .

The classical tour would be  to see Rome ( plan at least 3 days) then head towards North to Umbria and Tuscany , there  you should visit  Siena and Florence  before you continue to  Liguria or better known as the Italian Riviera .Have a look at Cinque Terre ( The five lands ) which are five small fishermen´s villages  directly by the sea and very pretty . Have a look at fancy Portofino , you might meet a famous star  there .

The go on to Genoa  , don´t miss the aquarium , the nicest and biggest of Europe . You might be lucky and arrive there when they have one of their great festivals or fairs  like the international Boat Show with super Yachts  in October .

You cam continue your trip along the beautiful seaside of the Italian Riviera and if you have enough time have a look at some of the picturesque village in the close hinterland . Make sure to visit Alassio and San Remo , Bordighera is also very beautiful . Close by is  " Villa Hanbury" a famous botanic garden and if you like to see Mediterranean flowers and plants you should not miss that .

Ventimiglia is the last town along the Italian coast , once past it you will arrive in Monte Carlo and then in France .

I haven´t spoken about Italies Southern regions and magnificent islands  - well they are just as beautiful : Sardinia , Sicily , Apulia  , just to name some of them . You will need another vacation to tour the South  and it is magnificent too  , just as the Adriatic Coast with beautiful Venice . From there you can go to Northern Italy and visit fantastic places like Verona , Parma , and Milan . Make sure to go to beautiful Trento Alto Adige , Italy´s majestic mountain regions .

As I said - there is just so much to see , you either need to move to Italy or come back for many holidays .
