  1. Have a look at source

  2. I have just come back from there.

I wouldn't go just at the moment because they having terrible trouble with a burst water main.

  3. Pack kind-on-the-feet footwear and just walk, and walk, taking not just the main  tourist crowded route but branching off into every little side alley.  Continue when you are lost until you've only 1/2 hour of stamina left and then start heading/asking for either St Mark's Square or the Station - whichever is closest to your accommodation.

Also, go out to the islands - not just Murano and Burano.

  4. Venice isn't that big and it's easy to navigate by vaporetto. You could visit St Mark's Basilica and the square, also the Doge's Palace is next door and if you take a tour you can see the bridge of sighs from the inside. You'll be taking the walk from the prison cells that the convicts did!! The Rialto bridge is a short walk away and there are lots of shops and markets there. If you don't fancy shelling out 90 euros for a gondola ride, take a vaporetto all the way along the grand canal and invest in an Eyewitness Travel Guide which gives you a step by step commentary on the palazzi you will see. If you like art, you could stop off at the Accademia. There are the Islands of Murano and Burano which are lovely and many winding alley ways packed with beautiful shops and cafes. Lovely cafe but rather expensive is Cafe Florian in St Marks. You can have a drink and listen to their musicians play and sing.

    Buon Fortuna

  5. go for a gondola tour, expensive, but it's a must.

Then get lost in the streets and try and find your way out.

Venice is a surreal & magical place -- just relax and let it be around you.

  6. In Venice you walk and walk: don't look for some particular things, because everything in Venice is great.

And remember, every half-an-hour, to get a little food and a drink in a real venice-bar, called "Osterie" or "Bàcari". Here you get a small snack (please choose "baccalà" or typical "polpette") and drink an "ombra" ("ombra" means "shadow" and this is the name of the glass of wine).  The best Bàcari you will find far from San Marco Place and Rialto.

Other things to do: a trip to isle of Burano and Torcello (so quiet and magic).

One thing absolutely not to do: to go for eating or drinking in the area of San Marco Place or Rialto. They will take all your money away...

  7. take a train to maetre across the causeway then come back just as it's getting dark and you'll see the lights flickering in the lagoon.
