Does anybody have any pointers for a good female bodyboarder entering a co-ed surf competition... is there anything really important I need to know? I've entered little contests before and placed high, but I've never competed in such a big competition... any advice?

  1. dont get serious that will NOT work because that just make you think to mutch then you bail.

but if you just have fun atleast you have a good time while in the heat

  2. Stay relaxed and have fun. being uptight makes surfing harder. Make believe you are riding all by yourself.

  3. I noticed that no one above gave you anything helpful, so I'll try and offer some real advice.

Learn how priority works. Nat Young recently won a big contest in socal and said "I hate sitting on other people, putting pressure on them, rather just focus on myself and have fun." He said that because that is what you have to do to succeed in competitive surfing, learn how to use priority to put pressure on your opponent. If they have priority you can pressure them into taking the wrong wave. If you have priority, you can keep them from taking of on the right wave.

Understand what judges are looking for, how they score waves. Make your turns count. Surf from top to bottom, not just down the line. Look for those sections that you can make top to bottom turns, cut backs, floaters, etc.

Obviously have fun. Competitive surfers have fun in competitions. Surfers that aren't competitive hate them. Depends on who you are. Recent studies show that girls are just as competitive as boys. Watch lots of surf videos. They will inspire you and teach you.

  4. are you body boarding in it?

but anyway just stay calm and enjoy it. if you do well you might get a local sponsor!

  5. dont let any one else intimidate u that might be better because if u start focusing on them then you will really s***w up so just worry about yourself

  6. yes, don't get eaten by sharks, and don't drown. beyond that, have fun.

  7. Just Have Fun
