i wouldn't mess with the malls, Rodeo Drive is the bomb for great shopping spree & if that too pricy for you the "Garment" district is really good for top fashion @ decent prices.  also 3rd Street Promanade is fun for funky fashion & beachy stuff.  have a blast in L.A., but do watch your back & be safe.  :)
