What to do in midtown Manhattan?!!?

I will be there for 2 days. I plan on doing lots of shopping. I will be staying in a hotel 2 1/2 blocks from Madison square garden. I don't want to venture to far away from there. Please suggest anything to do in reasonable walking distance! i'm looking for great places to shop as well as a record/cd store for my boyfriend. Thanks for the help! will pick best answer! any other suggestions on what to do while in Manhattan would be appriciated thanksss.

Midtown Manhattan is where the major department stores can be found, like Macy's, Lord and Taylor, Sak's Fifth Avenue to mention a few. They are within walking distance of MSG, especially Macy's which is right next to Penn station, which in turn is right across MSG. Other places to shop at (especially clothes) are H&M, Gap, and all these shops and boutiques that you will see while walking along the streets. Other things to do and places to go to in midtown is the New York Public Library, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, Broadway, the MoMa and its gift shop, Grand Central Station and St. Patrick's Cathedral to name some. I would suggest getting a map of the city or even just searching for them on Mapquest or google maps so you can find your way around easier and you can also plan ahead on which places you'd go to.
