  1. iPod and a good book will save your life. Also, handheld video games pass the time well.

  2. A good book, Ipod, ipod with movies that you actually want to see.

  3. most airlines now have awesome entertainment on board. most airlines will include tons of movies, video games, language lessons. what airline are you using? after the first 4 hours the rest feels the same. entertainment on board is super cool this days.

depending on your preference get an aisle seat so you will stand up as you please without jumping on people's lap, now if you want to sleep most of the time get a window seat.

  4. If you can afford it, buy an I-Pod touch (or something similar), and download lots of movies from I-tunes or wherever, and even consider buying an I-Pod charger pack so you can get more than 3-4hrs of movie time from the battery.  Bring some magazines or books as well, will help shake things up a bit.  Bring some decent food too, and if you can sleep sitting up, drink red wine with your meal and consider taking some sleep aids.  It might put you out for a few hours.  If you are lucky you will be sitting next to someone whose company you really enjoy, and you won't even know 9 hours went by.
