Question:

What to do on cruise stop in Labadee, Haiti?

I am going on a cruise in September and our first stop is in Labadee. What kind of shore excursions should we do? Stay on the beach, go site seeing, etc. I have also been reading some not so great stuff about Haiti in general. Do we need to worry about our safety there (anymore than we would anywhere else I mean.)? Thanks for the help!

  1. I went on a cruise EXACTLY like yours!! That was our first stop too!! Then we went to Jamaica, Grand Caymen, and then Cozumel! =)

Haiti though.. not too much to do.. we just walked around the island and bartered for cool stuff.. I got these cool hand carved masks for my flip flops (that were only 1.88 at Walmart) Barter as much as you can! Dont ever pay what they ask for! lol

But you can also rent jet skis and those cool banana boats.. just remember to wear sunblock! I got scortched our first stop! =(

    HAVE FUN!!

  2. Just to make it clear  for the person above, Labadee  does not belong to the cruise. It is a town in one of Haiti's district. The cruise have private  building there. That's it

  3. Stopping in Labadee, you will not be going beyond the confines of the cruiseline's resort.

For more info, go to CruiseCritic.com, click on "Boards", then "Ports of Call", then "Private Islands".

  4. From what I been told, the Cruise (Royal Caribbean I take it) has their own part in Haiti, which is Labadee.  You stay where the boat is.  There is shopping in that area, and the beach.  You are not allowed to tour the island.

  5. There isn't much to do there besides go to the beach. Labadee is a restricted area that is leased by Royal Caribbean. You can't visit any other parts of Haiti, there isn't much to do but go to the beach or visit the artisan market. The only locals you see are the ones at the various markets. There are a few different beach areas and everything is walkable. Don't waste your money paying for an excursion.
