My cousin really wants to be a high school teacher. She chosen to major in Social Science Education but at the same time she feel stressed out about it because one of her counselor at school told her she will have a hard time finding a job and to chose something else. She likes Biology but Social Sciences and History is her passion. Should she chose the subject she really loves or should she force herself to chose another subject just because its more in demand?

  1. I honestly don't think I've ever heard of there being too many teachers.

One field may be a little tougher to get placed in, but it will happen eventually.

I say it's better to try and do what she loves, even if it involves a little extra effort.

  2. its always better to do what you love than to be a slave for what is in demand cuz you won't be happy. And besides, you normally do alot better at things you like cuz the effort and interests comes naturally and happily.

  3. The surplus areas for teachers fluctuate from time to time. When I went to school, Social Studies was a shortage area in my state. Now it is usually math and science. If she changes her major to science and so does every other person studying to be a teacher, then there will be too many Science teachers in a few years. It is much better for her to study what she loves. A teacher who is teaching a subject they have a passion for will be a much better teacher in the long run.

  4. well, of course choose the 1 that u like! if u force urself to do the work that u think it is more popular or well-known but not ur favourite, u wont work forever! like me for example, im a daycare teacher of a private educare centre. Although it is not as popular as the school teacher, but it doesnt matter to me coz i like it! i like to spend time with children by taking care of them n oso teaching them to do their homeworks!

  5. Is Social Science like Social Studies?

There will always be a need for teachers of every subject.  I was told I'd have trouble finding a job because my degree is in English.  I've never NOT had a job.

She'll be fine.  Stick with what she has a passion for and she'll be happier in the long run.

  6. That's difficult to answer:

The counselor is correct. There is a demand for science and math teachers. Lots of people go for the social sciences and there may be a surplus of people entering those fields.

Maybe she should look for an internship or volunteer in an experience related to biology. Get some practial experience before deciding. How long does she have to make the decision?

  7. If she's looking to be a Teacher. There will always be a need for teachers.
