I really think im suffering from depression, it saddens me but i cant go on the way i am, i'm just getting worse and worse. I cant even remember what its like to be truly happy.

What's the best way of going about getting help?

A friend told me to go to my G.P but do i literally just go and say "I think i'm depressed, help me?"

Any help is much appreciated

Thanks

  1. pretty much yeah. and they might ask you a few questions then refer you to a psychologist, they might just say "ok" and not even ask Q's, just refer you right away

  2. You can talk to us on the internet but you need to see a therapist.  We can give you our opinions but a therapist is the only one that can help you.  Depression is very stress.  You need to find some therapist to go see.  You can email me if you have anymore questions.

  3. obviously cuz ur not gonna get any help if u dont talk

  4. pretty much , just go n talk 2 them

  5. Yes, just go in and describe your symptoms. Another thing is to ask the receptionist when you make the appointment for a 'double appointment', most spaces last for only 15 or 10 mins, and you really need longer than that to talk to your doctor about something like this. You won't have to tell the receptionist why.

  6. Pretty much, you just tell them how you've been feeling, how long you've been feeling this way. They'll ask you a few questions to try and find the root of your depression.  They'll find the right kind of medication subtible for you and if they think it's needed and if you're ok with it, they may set you up with theropy, but thats only with your ok.

Hope everything goes well, take care x*x

  7. yeah that's basically it. go to your doc, say that you think you might have depression, or that you're feeling depressed and need help. or, as Gabe said above, you can write it down if that's easier. and don't be afraid to cry. i know it sounds silly, but if you feel that bad, then crying is a good way of showing it. i cried because i really did feel so low, and i couldn't talk about how i felt without getting upset.

they will ask you questions about how you've been feeling, they will probably ask if you self harm or have suicidal thoughts etc etc, to assess how much at risk you are at that moment in time. they will then either prescribe you medication, or they will refer you to a mental health service where you will be able to speak to psychiatrists/psychologists. if you are referred, you may be given medication and/or you will be given therapy.

i'm glad you have realised there is a problem, and that you are going to take the first step to recovery. i hope you feel better soon.

feel free to email me if you need someone to talk to.

  8. Well first off they dont refer you to a psychiatrist unless they cant figure out whats the problem. just tell him your really depressed, or write a letter and have him read it in front of u so you don thave to talk, then he'll ask you questions and it will be easier. your g.p will probably start you off with a low dose anti depressant, and after a few weeks he may increase it decrease it or leave it the same based on your reaction to it, and also since it takes usually 2 weeks for full effect.

Good luck with this and NEVER think about suicide <3

  9. This link may be of no use at all but it might just convince you to take the step and tell your G.P. what you are going through.
