I am installing a shelving system and it came with some anchors called drywall driller toggle. Like a typical anchor it is plastic, but there is a metal center that toggles up once its inside the wall to hold it secure. My problem is, halfway through s******g it in, the plastic casing breaks. There is a video installation I'm following online, and they aren't having nearly as much trouble as I am. Is my drywall too hard or something? The video portion I'm referring to is at the 2 minute 30 second time mark. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=om9G7MD6usI

  1. sounds like you dont have sheetwalls, they sound like plaster walls,if this is a older this could be possible,Plaster is a wall constructed of wood slats nailed to the 2 by 4 s them plaster is slathered over the slats and sanded smooth.Try to find the void between the slats.

  2. USE YOUR STUD FINDER

MARK WHERE THE THE STUD IS

PUT THE s***w IN THE STUD GOOD LUCK

  3. Sounds like you're doing something wrong.  Why don't you go with the studs instead of the drywall anchors?  I've seen some pretty drywall anchors lately.  If the one's you're using aren't satisfactory, try something else if you can't find the stud.

  4. Try drilling a pilot hole a little smaller in diameter than your toggle anchor,  I'm assuming you're using one of those self tapping kind you s***w in with a screwdriver,  then s***w in the toggle.  You may even have drywall over a masonry wall which may be why you are coming to a dead stop.

  5. First check if there is a stud you are hitting.   If so, then just put a s***w through your object into the stud.

You can also drill the hole out with a bit and stick the toggle anchor in.

I have used the s***w to make the hole and tap the anchor in place with a hammer.
