I'm moving house in a few months and I'm taking all animals with me. Theres a variety of dogs, horses etc. But only one cat. He's been here, as an outdoor cat, since 1999. He's very quiet and everyone loves him and his personality so much. We're worried about the move on him though as he's 9 years old and only been in the car once to get neutered. When we move im afraid he'll get lost and run off/get hit by car or something. He cant go indoors as 2 in the family have allergies (and he hates indoors). The plan is to have a shed for the dogs and him (they get on VERY well) and to get him a large crate in which we put his bed, food and water, litter tray etc. and give it to him now so he's used to it and thinks its 'his' area so that when we move he still will have it in the dogs shed. Problem is how can we let him outside? How do we introduce it to him? Any ideas?? Any advice is great as i want to be 100% prepared for it. 10 points best answer!

  1. Cats tend to be more attached to places than to people. Since your guy is an outside cat, he may have problems making the move.  Keep him in a cat carrier while you are moving so he doesn't bolt and hide. When he gets to the new place, keep him confined in a bathroom for a couple of days, then let him explore the new place in small, supervised stages until he is comfortable in his new home. Good luck!

  2. wow! lots of animals! that'ss great. well i moved from arizona to virginia where my husband is stationed for the navy. i moved with our 4 year old cat. she was outside and pretty much only came in to annoy the dogs. but i stuck her in a cage and drove 3 days with her in the car all the way here. i used a spray that i picked up from petsmart that is used to actually calm the cat. you spay it on their bed or favorite areas, let it dry and for at least the rest of the day they are chill. another idea if you cant keep him out side is too look into a allergy sprays that you can get at petco or even petsmart that is for people that are allergic to the animals. not sure how well they work, never used them. but i actually was talking with an associate at petco today who used the spray and she says its a miracle! also, my cat is now kept inside all day. she adjusted the day we moved in out here, she went straight to the litter box after only showing her once where it was. you are helping him alot by giving him his bedding and such now before the move. as far as letting him go outside, try a harness and a leash. it sounds funny, but i use one on my cat to walk her outside and she loves it. i know its alot to read, hope something helps you out. good luck with the move!!
