  1. Have it sent back! Or make a scene, and get your meal for free. Happy days.

  2. Clarify your question, do you mean if they bring it to you trying to pass it off as the vintage adn more costly glass?

  3. Send it back politely remind them it is not what you ordered.  Inform them you would like another look at the wine list if they do not have what you asked.

  4. You have to remember that when the server, is bringing you the bottle of wine, he/she is usually the one who is worried about the whole interruption/presentation.  I recommend you just remain confident, don't bother smelling the cork or even looking at the lines running down the inside of your glass.  They will most likely pour you a sip and wait for you to give them the 'nod of approval'.  Just take a 'lil sniff and a sip.  If it smells like vinegar or is not a pleasant taste, tell them it does not interest you and you would like a bottle of the house wine. They will be able to sell it to someone else.  If you enjoy the smell and taste, tell them "that's fine".  The whole wine thing is a 'lil bit stupid if you ask me.  It's nothing to worry about.  But be sure to tip atleast 15% no matter what.  20% if everything was great.  It's rarely the servers fault if something is taking to long or if something tastes bad.  Be sure to pull the chair out for your date.  Us gentleman are a dying breed.

  5. Say (for example), "excuse me , I ordered a 1989 Montrechet and you brought a 1991. Have you run out of the 1989?" You deserve what you ordered and if they've run out they should tell you immediately upon returning to your table.

  6. Very tactfully bring it to their attention.

  7. lets see it's not what you ordered and is overpriced hmmmmmmm ........................................... shot in the dark here maybe send it back

  8. What? Your question is very hard to read and understand.

    Are you talking about etiquette?

  9. A good wine waiter will usually SHOW you the bottle  - unopened.

This is the time for you to say. "Sorry, that is not the year I requested  would you please bring the bottle of wine with the year I asked for."

Now, there may be an acceptable reason for the right bottle  not being brought out - maybe not available, - out of stock etc.

If so the drink waiter should tell you.

As far as price goes - bottles of wine in a restaurant are ALWAYS more pricey than from a pub or over the counter somewhere.

One way to beat this problem is to go to a restaurant that allows you to "bring your own" wine.

There usually a "corkage" charge but they will open the bottle and provide an ice bucket.

  10. Say "Oh I'm sorry, we wanted to try the 2002." Then you can immediately say "Actually, the 2004 will be fine. Thank you." That way you've brought it to their attention without being difficult.

  11. YOU TELL them!!

You let them know immediatley that you are a well versed and well brought up person who knows their wine and without being RUDE, you sniff the cork, etc, and then say:

Oh, excuse me? But this isn't the wine I ordered??

You are in charge, AFTER ALL, you are PAYING for that high priced stuff!!!

Taught by an Englishman who knew his STUFF! :)

  12. If it's not what you ordered, and they offer no reason for the substitution, simply point out that they made a mistake.  Ask them to bring the wine you ordered.

If this doesn't work, ask to see the manager.

  13. i tell the wine steward/waiter that it is not what i ordered and send it back....if this is refused then i would leave

  14. tell the waiter it is unacceptable.....period.

  15. You tell the wine steward that there's been some sort of mistake, because that is not the vintage that you ordered. (Know the year and type you ordered.)

There's a very solid reason a good wine steward first shows you the label, then uncorks, then gives you the cork to sniff, then allows you a taste. At each step you have the option of pronouncing the wine not what you ordered or unsatisfactory in some way.

  16. you tell them that the year is different and ask for an explanation.

  17. not sure i understand question.   if the wine is not to your liking you send it back.  usually they wait for you to do the sniff / taste routine  lol.  i personally hate wine .   if someone orders it on a cruise ship table for example , i will have a sip as a courtesy but it's a waste for me.
