Ok lets say I'm in a hill going 45 mph in 5th gear, and start slowing down and I'm around 5 mph but still in 5th because there was a red light, but all of a sudden that darn light turns green and I have to drive off again, what do I do?

  1. CHANGE RESISTORS

  2. See i was taught different to some of the comments. If iwas doing 30mph in a 30mph zone and approaching a junction i would only change down gear as and when the car required as long as the engine is running. I would approach the junction in 4th gear and only change gear if i stopped at the junction (1st Gear) if it is an open junction and nothing is coming you can simply drop down to second gear. Dip the clutch lower the gear and remove your foot from the clutch. The car will not jolt or lunge as you are already at a slow speed. I was told only change gear when the car tells you. Start of juddering or struggling.

  3. If you put your car in a lower gear will do the trick, on 45mph you should be in third gear.

  4. I suggest you should be shifting to a lower number gear as soon as the car speed is slowing down.

Always shift to a gear that is about the same as you would be driving in normally.

When I see I am approaching a stop, I begin shifting to lower gears gradually so that I am always in the correct gear I would use to accelerate.

You should never make the engine pull hard on a hill. You can hear the engine shudder and shake the car, that is hard on the engine.

Think of how you would pedal a bicycle, as you go up a hill if you slow down, you shift to lower gear because it is very hard to pedal. Same for the engine, shift down, don't make it work hard.

  5. shift into 2end gear and press the gas lightly depending on your rpm's

  6. Youre supposed to downshift as youre slowing down, or downshift as a way to slow down.  Its called engine braking, or allowing the engine to brake for you.

  7. Shift?
