My hubby left this morning and will be at a conference until Saturday afternoon and my best friend is leaving to go to her sister's wedding, so I'm stuck as to what my 16 month old and I should do. What are some fun things that I can do (can be special for me, special for my toddler, or for both of us) to pass the time and enjoy ourselves?

  1. Go to the zoo

  2. Take her to the park and have a picnic. Any mommy and me time is quality time.

  3. Considering it's Labor Day weekend, there are probably a ton of local craft fairs going on. I know my hometown is having one this Saturday and I am bringing my 20 month old.

Libraries have fun Mommy and Me reading times, and a lot of the times things are always going on at parks.

Or, you and him can just veg out in front of the tv for a few days. Nothing wrong with being lazy and eating junk food every now and then. In fact, I think for lunch I'm going to make some Chinese food, and my toddler and I are going to sit around and watch "The Fox and the Hound" her new favorite movie....LOL

  4. Kids like routine.  So whatever you do make sure its somewhat close to your baby's schedule.

Do you usually do nothing with your baby?  Im assuming you've gone to the zoo/park before.

  5. Check out local library. Get some new free books to read to baby, then snuggle up and read. Have a mom/ baby movie night/ slumber party. Make tent out of blankets , lay on the floor, watch a movie , have snacks. Work on cool christmas projects like ornaments made by baby and mom (bonus head start on xmas presents and cheap) Look for frugal crafts online.

  6. call me

  7. I also have a 16 month old.  Depending on where you live, if the weather is warm/hot you could go to a splashpad (if you have one near you or in a city close by)  To a petting zoo or a park where there are ducks to feed, have a bit of a picnic and play on the swings.  If the weather isn't so nice you could go to an indoor pool or something...

Do you have a toy lending library near you?  Sometimes those places are nice to go to and meet other parents and your child can play with toys they don't have at home.

You could visit family if they are near by.  Go for a bike ride if you have a bike trailer or seat for your child.

    Creativity is key!

Hope you have a great weekend!

  8. You could go to the zoo, maybe even try to plan a play date with other mommies in your area.  If there is an aquarium nearby you could do that too.

  9. I have a little girl of the same age and when her Daddy goes away (he's a long distance lorry driver) I never do any of the usual housework type stuff, I use the day time to take her out to the park or to a baby gym/ballpit type thing, go shopping and spoil her for a while letting her loose in toy shops to pick out what she wants.

Then we'll have a nice dinner together and she'll have a bath, we'll brush each other's hair and do girly stuff, it's really sweet when she tries to put her hair clips in my hair and put on my blusher!

Then when she's in bed I lock the doors, close the blinds, put the lights out and take the opportunity to have a long hot bubble bath myself and curl up on the sofa with a hot chocolate (no alcohol cos it's just you and baby!) and some munchies and watch anything on TV that doesn't involve, wheels, an engine, wings and the usual nonsense that my Fiance likes!

You don't say if you have a boy or a girl but whatever you choose to do just enjoy the special time with just you and your baby, he/she will love it!

  10. I'd go to the park and let baby make some new buddies while I have a chat with the mommies there.

  11. Well you can do just about anything, trips to the park or a play place you may have nearby or the playplace in mcdonald's, take her shopping, visit other friends and family. Spend days at home doing arts and crafts with your child, have your child make daddy something while he's away! There's countless ideas, look some up on the internet.

  12. oh gosh i feel ya, when my hubby deploys im all alone w/the kids for months. my best friend lives in another state till October! (military life)

    some things we do-

    ● pack a picnic lunch and go to the park to play

    ● buy a loaf of bread and go feed the ducks

    ● play dress-up

    ● read tons of books making all the character's voices and sounds

    ● build a huge bedsheet fort over the couches and dinning room chairs and crawl around underneath it

    ● finger painting, coloring, and sidewalk chalk

    ● if it's still warm enough, set up the baby pool or run through the sprinklers

    ● visit your local children's museum

    ● visit local zoo if you have one

    ● go for a long walk around your neighborhood, pointing out all the neat sights (like dogs, trees, clouds..etc. this is how they pick up language)

    ● visit your favorite icecream parlor for a treat

    ● get a huge thing of bubbles and go outside and blow bubbles and see if your little one can catch them (my daughter's fav. she's 2)

    ● go to her favorite toy store and browse for a bit then get her a little something. (my kids love this, cause we "play" in the store..yeah im *that* crazy mom! lol, it is a toy store after all)

    ● sing songs like, twinkle little star, patty cake, mary had a little lamb etc.

use your imagination. if you were your little girl, what would you like to do?
