My boyfriend was recently in a car wreck, and he broke his left hip and leg, as well as his right ankle. He will be bed-ridden for at least 8 weeks. I know he will go stir crazy. I will be by his side the entire time when I'm not working...so I need help!

What sorts of things can we do to keep him occupied during the day and us occupied at night and on the weekends?

  1. The first thing to realize is that there will be times that he's not gonna be in the mood for anything. And that's ok. It gets really really boring doing that.

That said, the next key is variety. A variety of activities. Some quiet, some not so quiet, some mental, some totally not mental. Some funny, some sad. I digress, you get the point. And a variety within a day. Don't just let him lay there day-in, day-out, watching movies. It's gonna get old soon. Watch a movie, do a game, read a book, do a craft, play some video, all in the course of a day.

So, some suggstions: work your way throught the DVDs on a favorite TV show. A favorite set of movies (e.g. LOTR, or Planet of the Apes, or Star Wars), or a favorite actor's movies. Or a favorite genre or director.

Get a video game and try out a whole bunch of different ones. Get books on tape. Get some board games. Get some crossword puzzles. Play fantasy football, or soccer, or baseball. Build a model. Learn some crafts together.

Hope that helps. Nice of you to want to be there for him. Best of luck!

  2. How about reading books, taking on online class, getting in touch with old friends, blogging, working from home.

  3. He could play solitaire, read, watch movies, watch full seasons of his favorite T.V. shows. Um...He could also probably draw or paint. Maybe you should get him one of those cross word search books.
