I was told that Canadian pennies made before 1974 where worth more. Is it worth to save them and if so what do I do with them once I have accumulated a few?

  1. In Canada it is against the law to melt coins. The Canadian cent actually change in 1997 to copper plated zinc. Up to that time it was .980 copper with zinc and other metals making up the rest. It was not against the law to o so here in the States but the U.S. mint invoked one of the regulations it can and made it illegal to melt cents or nickels or take large quantities out of the country. It is best to forget the cents as well as any other coins in Canada or you will get into trouble.

  2. Throw em' away. Worthless.

  3. They were worth more because of the amount of copper in them but you would have to have enough to sell them for the copper, i.e., tons, and not for their face or collector value
