So, I've had this Cat since I was 4(I'm now thirteen).I love hime to death and I think he is the best cat ever- my parents don't care for him much.Let me explain;

My Dad grew up on a farm so he believes all animals are for the outdoors.My Mom is allergic to pet dander.

My cat was already a year old when we got him and an outdoor cat.For a couple of years when he was younger we made him stay indoors(he hated it). This caused a biting problem.So we let him stay outdoors for every season beside the cold seasons.That is a problem b/c we live next to a forest and a field were the cat wanders around-he never leaves the area though- he is very well trained.Now whenever he want to come in we have to worry about fleas and ticks on him- and all his hair flying around.We really have no place for him except the basement(its very large and spacious,has windows,places to explore,Its not finished but I remodeled it for him) Continued............

  1. I think the basement would be fine for your kitty.

  2. Purchase frontline flea drops. Put the drops on his neck. That will repel fleas that get on him outside. Keep the basement clean and if he wants in just take him down there. As long as he can see out the windows and there is food and water, he should be fine.

  3. there are tick and flee treatments which will eliminate that threat. He needs more room than a basement but i f you have to then fill it with things he can sleep on and visit him as often as possible. If you spend more time with him than he will be home more often but also consider the basement a positive place to live.

  4. My one cat prefers the basement...loves the ground level window...so don't worry about that.  Your cat isn't looking for tht Taj Mahal, just some love, affection & care.  If going outside makes your cat happy but brings fleas/ticks into the house, try a flea collar - they are under 3 dollars.  If he loses collars, try the bio spot, which is $12.  If your parents are choose not to pay for one - whatever their reason (unwilling, unable to, have a different philosophy on pets than you) that is their decision to make as they are ultimately legally responsible for your pet.  I know it is hard when your parents decisions don't match with what you think is right; if you work with them to find a solution, though, you will have done all that you can do.  There are ways legally that you can pay for your pet's care yourself.  With your parents permission, go around your neighborhood, and see if a neighbor will hire you to mow their lawn or help with yardwork.  If you see that someone has weeds in a garden, offer to help pull weeds.  If they have a dog, offer to stop by once a week to 'pooper scoop' the yard (most adults I know would hire you in a minute if you stopped by and offered to do that!).  Let them know that you are trying to raise money to help care for your own pet - that will let them know that you are a responsible young adult.  You can also offer to take care of people's pets while they are away on vacation.   Another option would be for you to contact your vet and see if you can work off the care of your pet - if the vet can't legally allow you to do this because of your age, perhaps the vet or her office might have suggestions for you.  If the vet is unable to help, contacting the local cat fancier's club or cat rescue group and see if you could help them out in return for care for your cat.  Persevere - if someone says 'no', it means you just haven't talked to the right person yet.  One other option - if you go to church, talk to your priest or minister or Sunday School teacher (or rabbi or elder of your denomination) - they might be able to help you find a solution to your dilemna.  Good luck to you and your well-loved cat!

  5. Let him do what he wants. He'll be happier that way. When he comes in give him a flea and tick bath to kill those on him.
