Hi, I live in Perth, WA and we have just pruned our roses and they are starting to shoot again. What should I spray on them to keep them desease and pest free?? We have problems with aphids and also blackspot (I think it is blackspot. The leaves go yellow and have large, mouldy looking spots on them). And how often should they get sprayed for desease/pests?

and what is the best rose fertiliser? I have been told sheep manure??

They are really lovely old rose bushes that were just about destroyed by our tennants a couple of years back and we can't seem to get them back to their glory! HELP

  1. firstly burn any clippings or leaf rubbish that is infected. As for sprays , i prefer to make either a garlic and water spray or a tobacco and water spray, both are cheap and effective.sheep manure is good , if the leaves are pale yellow in the centre then it needs magneseum, otherwise you may be overwatering?Dont be shy when you prune, they love a hard cut  back for renewal. Keep spraying every couple of days till they are free of pests.

  2. I heard on the gardening show to spray roses with half milk and half water as the bugs don't like milk.

  3. I live in sydney and use Yates "Rose Gun" or Brunnings Rose spray (a cheaper alternative)

I also use sudden impact for roses

I have good results with both...
