Our baby is 6 weeks old today and she is awake a lot more and it seems like she doesn't know what to do with herself, any ideas on how to keep her entertained? Does anyone know any toys they can recommend

  1. for all 3 of mine we had one of those fisher price aquariums that hook on the side of the crib.. they all loved it.. my oldest could watch it for HOURS

  2. She needs to be in a bouncy chair where she can look around and see the action.  They also have the little toys that hang over on them.  Sometimes musical toys are placed on the boucy chairs and the little children love them.  Swings are miracle workers too.  You just need to provide them with a little activity in the room, and they will be fine.

  3. At that age my son really, really loved his mobile (and still does). You can also try putting some black and white pictures up in her crib for her to look at. They're pretty much just working on their eyesight and ability to track moving objects right now. You can try playing with her with some basic toys (lightweight, colorful rattles, etc.) but don't expect her to be able to play with them yet (although she may watch you play with them with great interest).

Another thing my son loved (and still does, lol) was being "flown" around the house. You pretty much just hold her out and then "fly" her around the house by walking around. Make sound effects, too. ;)

They also appreciate music a lot at this age. They haven't really developed their own tastes yet but they do like soothing music and sounds. Ocean, rain forest, and brook sounds work really well, as does classical music (Tchaikovsky is a baby favorite).

  4. I would say stuffed animals and things that move, my son likes the t.v. hes 9 weeks. He is always trying to watch it.

  5. Oh... the AWAKE baby! I integrated him into my routine.  I got a highchair that reclines.  It was FANTASTIC.  He could hang out with me while I had lunch, did dishes, worked on the computer, etc...

I also invested in a good carrier to use around the house or to go to the store.

Another activity he loved... shopping...  lots of lights, faces, etc...

  6. any toy with lots of lights and soothing sounds... it will not only keep them entertained but also allow them to use motor skills.... good luck and have fun

  7. Mobiles are great or even those floor play gyms they have for infants.

  8. Just carry her around and let her watch what you do.  Use a sling so your hands are free.  Really, you are the most entertaining thing as far as she is concerned, so just let her hang out with you and watch what you're doing.  Imagine how fascinating it could be to watch someone washing the dishes if you've never seen a plate or soap bubbles before!

The best toys are not toys at all.  My girls play with things like water bottles with a handful of beans in them, or straws.  They seem to really like kitchem stuff.

  9. take her outside for a walk, do some exersize while she's awake, it's really good for them. Talk and sing to her, even read baby books -- good start for later. Have some toys that have faces and rattles.
