What to do with a leaky tub?

Well im trying to get my grandma up stairs together and she live downstairs but im fixing upstairs so we can rent it out. ( even though im 16, i know what im doing i go to an engineering school) anyways.... when someone upstairs take a bath it wets the ceiling downstairs in the bathroom and you can see the imprint of upstairs downstairs in the bathroom,....how can we fix that?

  1. If there is an access panel behind the tub remove it and check out what's leaking.


  2. Call a plumber. A plumber can find the leak (in water valves, shower diverter, tub spout, shower head, drain, overflow drain, etc.), usually without having to tear anything out. This may require anything from a new/tightened tub spout to replacement of valve bodies, which will require tearing theings apart. If the downstairs ceiling is damaged, you'll also have to replace the drywall up there after the leak gets fixed.
