Question:

What to do with black fingernail?

by  |  earlier

so I slammed my left thumb with a car door and my fingernail has become partly black. About a little more than half of the fingernail is black and bruised. Its been a couple of weeks now and the pain is pretty much gone. I'm just wondering, if it's not fully black, will the nail stick fall off? And does the nail grow back underneath the dead nail without removing the dead nail? Thanks in advance

  1. i eat it

  2. It'll fall off sooner or later. New nail will start growing under it first though- let it fall off naturally to prevent infection or the other nail growing in wrong.

  3. linkey linkey

  4. it'll fall off but hate to tell you your nail will never regrow in the same...sorry hun...

  5. the chances are you will not lose the nail if it is not damaged at the root the black should fade as the dead blood beneath the nail bed is gradually reabsorbed by the body

  6. just let it fall off my friend did the same thing it will grow back hope that helps

  7. the nail will grow the black part out and then you clip it

fresh nail under big ugly creapy black nail on front

  8. lynch it!

  9. my left thumb nail is black as well

I crushed it about 1 month ago and the outside edges are normal but from the start of the nail is all black

From previous experience it will take about 6-7 mths to totally clear up

as the nail grows it slowly will grow out

  10. I doubt it will fall off. i bruised my toe nail in soccer and it was bad but it never fell off. It will just need time to grow out. If you are a girl you can paint it a dark color. (I guess you could if you are a guy too =])

Hope I could help you! <3
