  1. You can give bacon grease to backyard birds as a homemade suet treat.

"The simplest way to package bacon grease for bird feeding is in metal tuna or cat-food cans.  Punch a hole in the side wall of the can with a nail.  Use pliers to bend the tip of the wire into a knot that won't slip through the hole, and thread the wire through the can for hanging.  Fill the can to the brim with cooled, but still-liquid bacon grease, then stick it in the refrigerator to solidify.  Once the grease is no longer runny, hang the can from a branch.  Bluebirds, jays, woodpeckers, and Carolina wrens readily accept this source of fat...Bacon grease also draws crows, starlings, and even ravens."

This is best used in wintertime so the fat is not likely to run and turn rancid before the birds get to eat it.

  2. Yes - In Sydney the biggest mob is called Scanline (you can check them on the web) They pick it up for free & recycle it. Too easy.

There are plenty of these oil recycling firms in most countries.

Alternatively you could go 60s retro & save heaps on sun tan lotion. hehehe

  3. Used cooking oil can be used to smother ant hills outside in your yard. Pour the oil over the hole community - enough to cover completely. Ants will be gone and it's safe for the environment. Used bacon fat can be used for popping popcorn. The bacon flavor is absorbed into the popcorn and taste good too.

  4. Put a kit on you car and burn it! I have a few friends that are doing it and saving a few hundred bucks a month!

  5. As long as you filter it well, it will run in any Diesel engine with no problems especially if you mix it 50/50 with normal diesel.

If you want to run it neet you need a seperate tank on your car, start on normal diesel untill the engine is warm then switch over.

I ran my old 4x4 for 2 years 45,000miles on 50/50 wihout a days trouble.

  6. Some cities have recycling centres for these.  They make it into Biodiesel.  But you'll have to check it out.  Not all recycling centres have them.  Call your local one, they would know what to do with it.

  7. make it into biodiesel

  8. If you live in a small town it will be difficult to find recycling for it as it's an expense for the city to have programs like that.  If you just want to get rid of it and recycle go to a local fast food or small restaurant business and ask the manager if you can dispose of you cooking oil in thier recycling container.  Most restaurants have these, they are free to them and sometimes they get a little (5-10 ents per pound) from the company that "buys" their used oil, but now a days with the cost of fuel this is rare and most restaurants are just happy not to have to pay for the service, so everyone benifits.
