So we are moving into a new apartment only to find out that the entire two bedroom apartment only has one phone jack (in the living room). There are multiple power outlets in the bedrooms. Is there a way to convert those into phone jacks?

  1. Your moving into an apartment, so even if there was a way to convert a power outlet into a phone jack (which there isnt because they involve different wires) you wouldnt be able to, because apartment complexes dont allow you to do whatever you want to the apartment.

  2. The wiring isn't the same but you could use the hole in the wall as a way to rewire more phone lines, provided you have the landlord's permission. This would prevent other holes in the wall, you would in fact, replace some electric plugs with phone jacks.

You can also buy a splitter, with one jack to plug into the wall, and then two or more holes to split the signal, sending extension cords to various places in the apartment. You would run the cord under flooring, staple/tape it to the baseboards, etc to keep it out from underfoot and being hideous. You can use these extra outlets for phones, dialup internet, or to hook into your satellite TV system as well.

OR you may be able to find a cordless phone that works anywhere in the apartment, or with multiple handsets running on a single charger base unit which is there at the outlet.

  3. no you cant convert them into phone jack's, but you can do 1 of 2 thing's

1- radio shack sells a extend a jack, you plug one piece into an electric jack close to the phone then the other into any other power outlet in the apartment.....

2- buy a cordless expandable phone, most have 1 base station and can expand up to 7 other hand sets. this is the easy way and you have mobile freedom to walk around.
