What to do with my cat while on vacation

I am going to be gone from this thursday night to sunday night (3 days roughly)

Always been a dog person, this is my first cat, can I just leave out extra food and fresh litter since its not for that long?

It is going to be hard to have someone check on the cat.

Please, need some suggestions if the cat will be alright for the 3 days (she is on her own for most of the time anyways since its just me in the house and shes the only pet, I work full time)

  1. some people might disagree but thats why they make automatic feeders. or you can leave out a bunch of dry cat food and water. make sure you leave a clean litterbox too with plenty of litter in it. we once left two of our cats for seven days and they were fine.

you know they sleep most of day anyway!

  2. Kitty should be fine for 3 days as long as you leave out plenty of food and water.  Get one of those food and water holders that hold alot and it will last for several days.  Like this http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/pr...  Also, consider leaving out an extra litter box just in case.  I also like to leave the TV or a radio on as well so that my cats don't feel completely alone.

  3. I always suggest having someone come by and check on the cat daily.  What if its water gets spilled and it has no water for 3 days or it gets sick?  Stuff happens.  Do you have a neighbor that can check in?  If not, call your vet, they can usually recommend a reliable pet sitter and they won't charge you much for a once a day check-in.

  4. My cats deal very well on their own while I'm away, just leave him enough food for three days and leave them different water containers, so that if one is tipped over he can drink from the other.

3 days is not that long. And cats cope well on their own.

If it's the first time you leave him alone for more that a day, he'll be a bit angry with you when you get back, but the next day he'll be happy again.

    hope i helped ;)

  5. You can try to call around and get rates on taking the cat to a kennel. Just make sure they are clean and nice. its easy to get taken advantage of. there are also places that can come to your house and check on animals for you.

  6. Leave your cat at an abondon house or someones house who has a mice problem and lock him in there

    with food and water

The mice would feed him and keep him busy til you

    arrive home

  7. Cats are pretty self-sufficient so a little extra food and water is all they need if you're gone for a few days, as long as this is an adult and not a kitten. Any long than 4 days and I'd recommend getting someone to check on the cat or dropping it off at one of these 'pet spas'. And just make sure that if your cat has claws you keep them in a room with food, water, clean litterbox and nothing you'd mind being a little damaged when you return.

  8. yeah. cats are easy to take care of.

just leave out the food and water.

    shell be good.

  9. I have three cats. I put them in a kennel once, and one was severely traumatized. Since, I limit my vacations to no more than five days. I leave a whole bag of dry food in a dutch oven pot, and five big pots, or bowls of water out for them. Oh, and two extra litter boxes ( I use the aluminum disposable turkey cooking pans, as extra litter boxes).

  10. We leave our 4 cats for 2-3 days at a time. We just make sure they have plenty of food, water, and clean litter boxes and they are fine.

  11. The right thing to do is to have someone come in and check on her daily.  If your friends and family are not able to come, you can hire a cat sitter to come in once or twice a day.  Also, your vet may board cats or will be able to refer you to a facility that can take her for a few days.

So pick up your phone and do the right thing!

Good luck and have a great vacation!

  12. The right thing is have someone come and feed, play with her, change litter, and water her daily. If it is impossible to do that then you would want to take her to a pet hotel. they will play with her and everything each day. All you need to do is bring food and treats and any special bed or toys, etc. They will provide the litter box. Either way you shouldnt leave her alone

  13. My sister was just out of town for a week, and I doubt her cat even noticed she was gone. Really, just leave out lots of food and water (maybe even invest in one of those auto feeders with the tank of food on the back, and a waterer too), and maybe a second litter box a few feet away from the first. If you can have someone to check on her, that's good, but if she's home alone most of the time anyway then she won't even mind. Cats are fine by themselves. I would just make sure you do things like make sure there are no dirty dishes sitting in the sink with dirty water that could make her sick, put the toilet seat down, and make sure there's no standing water anywhere that she could fall into. Your home is probably already cat safe, but she could get extra bored on those nights alone. She'll be fine!
