Question:

What to do with my tennis racket's strings?

OK I play tennis a lot, its my main sport and i am sort of stuck right now. I started using the Prince o3 Hornet Hybrid 3 months ago and I got it for a gift but the person who got it for me accidentally bought it stringed. The strings are currently becoming a mess after every single point. I asked my uncle who plays tennis and he says that the more loose strings are, the more power you get. I have an aggressive game which involves a killer 2 handed back hand, an OK forehand, a recently improved serve(average speed is about 56). So I don't really know what to do? Should I get it stringed tight or let it stay loose or what?

  1. Your uncle is correct about loose strings having more power, there is sort of a trampoline effect.  Of course, tighter strings will have more control.  Also, the type and freshness of the string will impact the amount of spin you can put on the ball.  I tend to find that when my strings start to get way out of whack after each point I like to change them because the balls will start to float long, but others I know play with the strings all over the place.  I would recommend going to a tennis shop and getting advice, there have been vast advancements in strings lately, and you can get hybrids and synthetics which allow you to increase power but also allow you to put enough spin to still have control.

  2. if the strings are really lose and are moving around every time u hit the ball, its time to get it restrung.
