Question:

What to do with plastic that cannot be accepted locally?

Code 4 in particular. The resort's bar at which I work uses lots of red plastic Solo cups for outdoor use, and I collected about 12 for recycling.

Well, I would ahve continued, but the local center won't take it. They take 1 2 3 5 only.

I looked it up, and I get the fact that there are differences in the compounds used.

Just wondering, in Southeast NY, if there are any other options besides chucking "unacceptable" plastic into the dumps!

Thanks.

  1. go to www.earth911.org to see if there is a local facility that will take them.

If you really want to make a difference, find a better choice for the resort. Try calling and asking for their purchasing department and ask where they buy the red cups. Contact that company and see if they have a more earth friendly substitute, hopefully they do. Then call the purchasing department back and ask if they will switch.

Most non earth friendly choices are made out of habit and ignorance. I always try to encourage change by enlightening people.

  2. if you have a rock garden cut the cups up and put them under  the rocks
