What to do with spent batteries?

I have a plastic bag full of about 300 spent batteries! I don't want to send them to landfill because of the polution they would cause the enviroment but I can't save batteries indefinatley as eventually they would take over my home ....any ideas?

Some places in your town may have a box to recycle dead batteries.  If not, you need to find your nearest hazardous waste disposal center.  

A couple more items that need to go to the hazardous waste center with the batteries are CFL lightbulbs and paint!

It's awesome that you are not throwing the batteries in the trash!  Keep it up!

In our area there is a store called Batteries Plus. They take both rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries. I believe you also receive a 10% discount if you recycle there and then purchase new batteries.

The local council where I live has a battery recycling box at the recycling centre / tip. Ask your local council if they recycle batteries, if not complain to your local councillor to get one installed. then everyone in your area can recycle batteries.

In my area we have a household hazardous waste drop off centre, we can take batteries, paint and lots of others things, you might have one too.  Most people where I live don't know we have it.  If you google your city, or if you are in a town google your nearest city, and household hazardous waste.  You might find out you have one, that's what I did and I was surprised to learn my city has one.

Check the website below. I use a hearing aid and have been told to put dead batteries in the ordinary household waste, so this was interesting to me too. Hope this helps

Whoa that is a lot of batteries!

Have you tried using rechargable batteries? You can recharge them upto 1000 times!

Wow good on you for not thrwing them out, you should be able to recycle them somewhere, if you can't then complain to the council to get a battery recycling box installed x]
