I eat the cookie first when its wrapped in plastic.  I don't eat them when it is unwrapped.

I read the fortune after I eat the wrapped cookie.  I read the fortune and don't eat the unwrapped cookie.

Sometimes I just want the fortune out and don't eat it...other times if the Chinese food I had is really salty I eat it to counter balance all the flavor I just had.

That is a Chinese fortune cookie.  I break mine, read the fortune, then eat the cookie.  Or, I put it in my purse for some time when I am desperate for something to eat when in the car.

It is an American invention.  I like the thin, crispy ones.  The fortunes used to be more interesting when I was a kid.  Now they are mostly sayings.

A Chinese fortune cookie and a cup of the tea I had with the meal is a great ending - if I'm not so stuffed I can't move.

Me: Gently crack the cookie in half and remove the fortune. Read the fortune and laugh about it while enjoying cookie.

Mom: Break cookie in half, take fortune, donate cookie to whoever else wants it.

Dad: Wrap fist around cookie (while it's still wrapped) and crush it. Take fortune, leave cookie shards on plate.

What do you do with it? You split it in half, take the fortune out, then eat the cookie. Don't eat the fortune, the paper wouldn't taste very good. Then enjoy reading your 'fortune.'

In addition, you could also have little rituals. For instance, like not reading the fortune till you eat the cookie or vice versa. Personally, I like breaking the cookie while its still in the bag, reading the fortune, then opening it.
