What to do with ugly yellow countertop??? not formica!?

We just moved into a new place and the countertop in the bathroom is a very ugly yellow color. It looks like it was once a pretty off-white stone that was sealed in a very thick coat of clear sealer that has since turned yellow. Anyone know why the sealer turns yellow and if there is anything that can be done to salvage the countertop? Thanks!

Age yellows most things. I would remove the sink and ceramic tile the top . then replace the sink, just like new!!!
