What to do?How to fall asleep early! Help!?

I am 16 and I need to get up at 5:00 and it's already 2:00. I have tried 10 things to get me to fall asleep and none of them work. I have been laying down, trying different things since 8 PM. I am so disappointed in myself and I will probably miss orientation for school tomorrow. I tried reading, counting from 1000 backwards, I tried not thinking about anything, I tried writing down how I felt.

It is a constant struggle every night for me to go to sleep. Once I fall asleep, I sleep for 9 hours.

Any tips on how to get to sleep? Is there any medicine that I can take, just for a few nights so I can get used to going to sleep early? Thanks!

Ps. even if I do a vigorous exercise routine around noon, I am still not tired at night.

  1. Try doing a vigorous walk in the afternoon after school when you get home.

    Set you alarm for 4am. Get up earlier and you should go to sleep earlier.

    Try warm milk before bed. Read a book while in bed When the eyes get tired put down the book and go to sleep.

    Don't drink any soda in the afternoon, candy and things like that will keep you awake,

  4. try lying down and counting sheep with your eyes closed or relax and close your eyes and breath through your nose it always works 4 me

  5. your doc can prescribe ambien if nothing else works for you. it is very gentle, i take a very low dose regular release, not extended release, and it just makes you fall asleep, but not stay asleep or feel groggy.

    you should try, yoga, tea, reading as well, but sleep is so vital, if you are deprived it can cause other issues, and the doc may want you to try meds for a while to get back on track. good luck with school :)

  6. A really good medicine to take, that my wife takes for her sleeping trouble, is Melatonin. Its an over the counter, NATURAL cure. It's not really addictive, its more like a relaxer.

    works for my wife.
