  1. I've never seen a burrito in Mexico....nor a fried taco shell.

What we're used to calling Mexican food in the states, is much different than what you'll find south of the border. Some people like it, some don't. I embrace it as part of the experience, and have logged many miles of travel there, and many more to come. Keep an open mind and learn from what you experience, rather than hold any preconceived notions...you'll have a better trip, and probably a better life.

  2. Here are some famous delicious mexican meals that I would recommend:

    1. Pozole

    2. Mole

    3. Birria

    4. Sopes

    5. Enchiladas

    6. Chiles rellenos

    7. Tamales

    8. Albondigas

    9. Picadillo

    10. Carne en su jugo

    11. Tortas

    12. Gorditas

    13. Papas rellenas

    14. Flautas

    15. Quesadillas

    15. Chilaquiles

Please note:  I am not including breakfast, soups, desserts, and sea food (aka mariscos) meals--the list will be too long.

Also, within meats and chicken you will find a variety of dishes not mentioned.

For refreshing drinks I suggest you try Horchata, Jamaica or cebada.

Saludos desde Mexico y buena suerte!

  3. well tacos for example are way different in mexico than they are at taco bell. Everything has a different flair. They don't use Cheddar cheese like they do at taco bell. Tortas are really good if you go to vendors. It is like a mexican sandwich. Just be open to try anything that is part of the fun. Tamales are really good. Sometimes they sell them in big vats on the side of the road. Mexico is also known for the fruit. If you see a fruit stand with fresh fruit hit it UP!!! One of my fathers personal favorites is corn on the cob. They sell them from big steamed vats on corners.  Everything they have there is just a little different, even the "american" stuff

  4. Thera are many good food in Mexico, but remenber that in most cases the food is spicy, so if you don't have stomach problems try everything, the Mexican cousine is amazing

  5. You won't find food like at taco bell in mexico. Thats not mexican food. You will have cabrito, alambres, bistek helotes and many things you have never heard of

  6. Arrachera con frijoles charros

    Carne Asada a la Tampequeña

    Cochinita Pibil

    Cerdo en adobo

    Mixiote

    Pavo en mole colorado Oxaqueño

    Huachinago al mojo de ajo

    Pampano a la Veracruzana

    Cecina

    Barbacoa

    Carnitas

    Pollo rostizado

    Mole Pipian

    Mole Poblano

    Tlayudas

    Pozole

    Cemitas

    Tortas Ahogadas

    Biria

You work your way way through a few of those dishes buddy, and you will be eatin' "some real authentic Mexican food unlike what they sell at Taco Bell" and THAT'S a promise! Most are NOT too spicy either.........

(in the movie, Johnny Depp's character is actually eating "Cochinita Pibil.....)

  7. every region has its specialty try chiles rellenos if you get the chance or an authentic chorizo. Remember the name.

  8. R u serious??? You can eat (just examples):

-Huevos (Eggs) rancheros (w/red sauce and a fried tortilla under), a la mexicana (w/chopped tomato, onion and chile), divorciados (w/both red and green sauce)

    -Enchiladas (de Mole, Verdes, Rojas)

    -Mole con Pollo

-Quesadillas (stuffed with pretty much whatever you want)

-Sopes (like a thick tortilla with beans, chicke, lettuce, cream, cheese and sauce of course)

-Huaraches (like a sope but larger and with meat)

-Gorditas (like a sope but everything is stuffed in)

-Pozole (something like a corn soup with a lot of different condiments, delicious!)

-Arroz a la Mexicana (rice with peas, carrots and potatos)

-Bistec a la Mexicana (same as huevo a la mexicana but w/beef instead of eggs)

-Pollo Pibil (ckicken in a red delicious non-spicy sauce)

-Cochinita Pibil (same as pollo pibil but with pork and purple onions)

-Chicharron (fried pork skin, GREAT with guacamole or pico de gallo sauce)

    -Guacamole

    -Pescado a la Talla (fish)

-Pescado a la Veracruzana (fish with potatos, carrots and other stuff like that)

-Mixiotes (like pollo pibil but cooked with steam)

-Tamales, Atole, Elotes hervidos o asados (roasted or boiled corn), Esquites (boiled and seazoned corn)

    -Tortas

-Chile Relleno (a large non-spicy chile stuffed with cheese

-Tinga (chicken with onion and tomato sauce, great for tostadas or quesadillas)

-Picadillo (beef with peas, potatos and carrots

    -Tacos Dorados (flautas)

    -Barbacoa (steamed lamb)

    -Carnitas (fried pork)

    -Chilaquiles

Most of it can be found any time of the day, we like strong breakfast! And as drinks you can take fruit water (any), or try Jarritos (mexican soda)

BTW burritos are not that mexican, they are mexican-american, more often eated on the border towns of both countries aswell as chile con carne.

  9. Go rent the DVD Once Upon a Time in Mexico. In it, Johnny Depp's character eats puerco pibil.  IN an extra on the DVD, the director Robert Rodriguez gives a cooking class on how to prepare puerco pibil. Try it, you'll like it.

  10. MY FAMILY IN MEXICO LIVES BY THE BEACHES, SO WE EAT MARISCOS[SEA FOOD]!!YUMMMMMMMMMM!I LOVE MARISCOS THEY ARE SOOOO GOOOOD!!!U SHOULD DEFINITELY EAT THIS!

  11. quesedila tortas there filled with meat chirizo which is 100% mexican food its mixed with eggs and usually eaten for breakfast. Tamale is good

  12. You are in luck, I am Mexican and i can tell you that when you travel to my country you will not find anything at all like Taco Bell. Taco bell food is actually considered Tex-Mex, food geared to an US audience with Mexican influence. The only burritos you will find are the kind you can ride and take a picture on :-) What you will find is all the major restaurant chains from the US; Mcdonalds, BK, Carl Jr, etc, whit the notable exception of Taco Bell,  and you will find traditional fast food like steak tacos , tacos al pastor(pork tacos), gorditas(the fried kind with hot pork rinds), Birria(Goat mole), Carnitas(fried pork),etc. If you want to have a "food rehersal" go to a local taqueria that is not tex mex and dont order anything that is loaded with cheese, that would be closer to real Mexican eating.

  13. enchiladas

  14. You don't say where in Mexico.

You'll find lots of International cuisine in hotels and fine restaurants.

Mexico, DF is famous for food.  Good BBQ pork and seafood.  Authentic Spanish cuisine.

Cancun and Cozumel, I've had trutle, lobster, and very good seafood.

What you mentioned falls into Tex Mex.
