  1. There going to test you on your fielding and your 60 yd dash time. Believe it or not, only the best in the tryout have a chance to hit. Try your best and expect fierce competition.

    Good luck

  2. i dont care just get me a-rods autograph

  3. Use your head! Batting Practice, Baserunning, fielding, etc.

  4. I 100% agree with (rgentry23's answer) even the edits. Though it has been quite a while for me now.

  5. Here is exactly what will happen...When you first get there, they will divide everyone up by position and give you a number.  That number is your "name" for the entire tryout.  Then everyone will do a 60 yard dash.  You will generally run against one other person that is playing the same position if possible.  After that, the outfielders will make throws from right field to 2nd and 3rd and home.  Then infielders will make throws from third base and first basemen will make throw to third base.  Pitchers and catchers do their thing as well. Next, there will be batting practice.  Depending on the number of players there, you might only get a few swings (6-8) so be ready.  Usually after batting practice they will keep some of the better players around for a scrimmage if there are enough players there.  Then you will go home.

Edit:  Really these guys are looking for the five tools: Speed, hitting for power, hitting for average, arm strength, and fielding.  All of this other mess about your attitude and not getting down or whatever is not important at that point.  They couldn't care less about your personality just the five tools in a tryout.  Everything else can be worked out later as far as a pro scout is concerned.

Edit 2: UNLIKE what reeser said, NEVER hit the cutoff man in a tryout.  Again these guys are looking for tools not fundamentals.  They would rather see you throw it as far as you can than see you hit a cutoff man. So throw it as far and as hard as you can.  Someone can teach you to hit a cutoff man in the minors.

  6. Joba Jr. answered the question the best.  I do have some advice though; when you are at the tryout, learn from the others around you.  Someone will teach you something cool that will help you become a better player.  Coaches, players, or scouts; try and learn from what information they have to share.  Good luck.

  7. a few tricks, my dad made the Dodgers as a first baseman back in his day. i would look less at the workouts/drills and more at the mental aspects. but drills for a first basemen, i would look for the scoop drill (for improving scoop plays and all), situational hitting (where the situation is given and you hit depending on what you think would be best) and

1.) Fundamentals are key: pretty self explanatory, you just need to make the smart play, cut off men and all, i know your a first baseman and all but be willing to play outfield, (see tip 4) are key to this. Use your head, you sound good enough.

2.) Good attitude: it translates onto all levels. if you make a bad play, shrug it off and make a great one next time out. don't throw your glove on the ground in disgust and curse the sky for your "epic failures".

3.) Mental toughness: it's more or less the same as last. be clutch in the scrimmages, step up as a leader, all that good stuff.

4.) be willing to play anything: look at B.J. Upton or Nick Swisher. Guys who can play nearly anywhere and be successful. pretty basic.

5.) have fun with it: the worst thing for you to lose would be your confidence. you are just as good as the men on your left and right so prove it to the scouts!

hope this helped and good luck!
