I'm going to watch Phantom of the Opera during an afternoon show and I want to know what I will be expecting. I also need to know what I should even wear!

  1. You are going to wait on a long line that goes really fast into the theater. The usher will tell you where to go and where your seat is and then he/she will hand you your programs. You'll sit down and relax and pretty soon the lights will go down and the show will start! Then you sit back and relax and enjoy the show. Broadway is a wonderful experience that's not only cultural but TONS of fun.

You can wear whatever you want, especially to a matinee. Seriously, only tourists dress up for Broadway shows and you can spot them a mile away.

  2. There is no rule on what to wear...especially to an afternoon matinee.  If you'd like to dress up in "casual smart" attire that would be acceptable, but you can also be perfectly acceptable in slacks and a casual top.

The point is that you are going to see live performance and you want to be ready to be comfortable to enjoy a live performance.

Really, the only rule that I think is a must is that you go into the theatre ready to be swept away and suspend your disbelief for a few hours. Just make sure to do whatever it takes to do that...

    Enjoy!

  3. Great show mainly for all the stage craft. There is a lot of action on stage taking place on the sides, so pay attention.  Just relax and enjoy it.

For afternoon shows, you can wear jeans/slacks and be more casual. I usually dress with a light top and then a sweater or jacket over top - you never know if the theater will be cool or hot.

  4. POTO is a good show. Jeans are fine to wear!
