I agree with gan 100% per cent.

This gang comes in to Belize for the sole purpose of robbing tourists and run back to Guatemala and to the best of my knowledge , they have not all been apprehended.

These guys hid in the bushes near a large speed bump and ran out on this guy in his jeep.  He took automatic fire but escaped unharmed

Mexico - Belize it´s awesome. you get to see the caribbean, the weather is hot as h**l but it is one of the richest environments that you can ever see.. Secure (but of course be careful) it´s cheap in small towns and a lot to see..

Just be aware of going nearby the Mexico - Guatemala borderline, that is a really dangerous zone to be, cause of the Mara (in case you don´t know them, a fuked up gang)

If I were making the crossing, I'd spend the night in Chetumal and have your hotel call Challenger Taxi to pick you up in the morning (make it before or after rush hour if it's a weekday). They will expedite you through customs and take you as far into Belize that you want.  They could take you to the bus station in Corazal or drive you all the way to Belize City (for a price).
