What to expect from Justin Rose at the Arnold Palmer Invitational? – Golf Feature
The Arnold Palmer Invitational is about to start at the Bay Hill Golf Club in Orlando, Florida, with the dearth of top-ranked players.
However, names like Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Jim Furyk and Phil Mickelson confirmed to participate in the event.
Apart from these legendary golfers, the other player who has proved his worth in the world of golf and has committed to participate in the event is Justin Rose.
He is the top-ranked player to accept the invitation sent by the Arnold Palmer organization, as the top seven players thumbed down the request to appear in the event.
If his past record at Bay Hill is observed, he tied for the third position in the 2011 edition and tied for the eighth place in the 2006 edition of the event.
Therefore, his track record at the venue supports him as being the hot favourite for a win in the event.
Apart from his past performances at Bay Hill, his recent stats on the PGA Tour also speak of his success in the current season.
In 2012, he made a total of six starts and succeeded in making two top-5 and three top-25 finishes.
His best finish came in the Cadillac Championship, where he raised the World Golf Championship trophy for the first time in his career after a one-stroke margin victory over Bubba Watson.
The highlight of his performance at Doral was his consistency throughout the four rounds that he played.
Bubba Watson had a three-round lead in the event but failed to capitalise on it because of the inconsistent performance he showed on the venue.
In the meantime, Rose held his nerves and played his natural game that earned him a victory in the end.
Just one week before the Cadillac Championship, he tied for the fifth position in the Honda Classic after carding 66-66-71-70.
Therefore, he has the ability and skills to stun his opponents in the 120-men field.
Yet, he should not forget that Els, Woods and some other players are also in the best of their forms and can definitely challenge him on the leaderboard.
There are many senior players participating in the event, who have plenty of experience at the venue.
Among them, Woods has the highest number of wins, six in total, at Bay Hill, which speaks of his excellent track record in the tournament.
Wood knows each and every trick to play on the course and is very well aware of the requirements of the venue course.
Therefore, he is another hot favourite, despite the current injury issues, to win the tournament.
Both Rose and Woods partnered in the first match play round of the Tavistock Cup, representing Team Albany.
Another player, who is likely to challenge Rose in the event will be Els. He finished last week’s Transitions Championship tied for the fifth position after losing the lead on the final two holes of the tournament.
Overall, his performance in the event was outstanding. However, two back-to-back bogeys to end the final round caused him to fall on the leaderboard, rather than register a win.
He is currently not qualified for the Masters Tournament in April and a win is necessary for him to earn a spot in the first major event of the season.
Therefore, Rose will have to keep this in mind while playing because Els would never like to miss the Masters, as he has not missed it for many years.
