What to expect from Yani Tseng at Vancouver?
Current world number one Yani Tseng is eager to end her winning drought, and the CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 can provide her with a good opportunity to atone for the lapses she made in the last three tournaments.
Tseng is regarded as the most talented golfer on the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) Tour, as she has racked up several professional titles in her career.
The CN Canadian Women’s Open 2012 is set to be played from August 20-26 at The Vancouver Golf Club, with a strong field featuring most of the top-ranked LPGA stars.
Although not as fired up as she was at the Kia Classic 2012, held in March this year, Tseng has decided to make another dramatic comeback and consolidate her number one position.
Officials of the CN Canadian Women’s Open told the media that the roster for the prestigious tournament has almost been completed.
They said that the presence of big names will help them attract more spectators this year. Speaking of the players who recently confirmed their commitment for the tournament, officials told that South Korean Na Yeon Choi, who stunned the golf world by winning her first major title at the US Women’s Open 2012, is ready to grace the field.
Other prominent contenders confirmed to join the field include Lexi Thompson, Paula Creamer, Natalie Gulbis, Suzann Pettersen, who won the 2009 edition of the tournament, and the defending champion Brittany Lincicome.
Tseng may not find it easy to record a victory at the CN Canadian Women’s Open — a tournament is known for staging tough battles, but the Taiwanese prodigy is capable enough to regain her lost charisma and keep her rivals at bay.
Analysts said that Tseng’s biggest concern this season is to protect her top spot in the Women’s World Golf Rankings — and displaying the best performance at Vancouver is the only way to stay out of trouble.
Although the field will be featuring many American and European players, the biggest threat is likely to come from an Asian contender.
Na Yeon Choi, who was an under performer a couple of weeks back, has now emerged as a prodigy.
Choi currently ranks second in the Women’s World Golf Rankings, but knocking Tseng off the top spot seems unlikely in the near future as the Taiwanese golfer is stronger in terms of total points.
