What to expect from the upcoming 2011 Formula 1 Silverstone Grand Prix?
First 8 of the 19 scheduled Formula 1 races are done and dusted and so far, regardless of having some overtaking kits in the cars, faces on the podium stairs have remained somewhat the same.
Although plenty of overtaking and pit stops have been witnessed by the Formula 1 fans and followers in the ongoing 2011 season, there is no doubt that still there remains a monotony at the chequered flag.
So the question of who can challenge Sebastian Vettel and Red Bull Racing for podium at the upcoming Silverstone Grand Prix remains unanswered.
Looking at the statistics and the performance curve, there is no doubt that Red Bull can lose the race in extreme conditions, but cannot be barred from taking the podium stairs, which was the case in China and Canada.
The Milton Keynes-based team has a substantial lead in both championship tables and Silverstone will be the season decider for Vettel at least.
However, adding drama to the 2011 Formula 1 season is International Automobile Federation (FIA) which has pulled the plug on Red Bull’s dear Blown Diffuser. From now on, the next 11 races of the 2011 Formula 1 season will be contested without the diffuser
boost.
Although the Red Bull camp has stated that the FIA has intentionally clamped Diffuser to hurt them, but whatever the case might be, the diffuser is history now.
Now the only thing that is going to affect the performance of the Red Bull team in the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season is the few milliseconds that they will lose in the corners and turns.
It can be expected that the Red Bull team will have some reliability problems in the Silverstone race.
McLaren-Mercedes will be the first team to take advantage from Red Bull’s downfall in Silverstone. The British team has done all that they could do to be as competitive as them, but have constantly failed to grab as many wins as the Milton Keynes-based team
has managed so far.
Ferrari are also expected to take a step ahead in their ongoing uphill development race in the season. The Scarlet team started slowly in the 2011 season but soon caught up and are becoming a threat for Red Bull.
Apart from these three teams, some unexpected results can be expected from the Mercedes team. Although Mercedes are not as fast as the Red Bull or McLaren but because rain is expected in Silverstone, the Silver Arrow team can shine ahead of the field.
Although Renault made some spectacular races at the beginning of the 2011 season, the black and gold livery cars are expected to suffer in Silverstone because they heavily rely on the Blown Diffuser technology.
Altogether, a spectacular show is expected from Silverstone as the Formula 1 cars will have their first taste of the new pit complex.
