What to expect from the upcoming PlayStation Vita
Sony are set to unveil their latest handheld portable gaming device in the shape of the PlayStation Vita. The Vita is going to be made available in Japan before the end of the year, while the North American and European markets are going
to get their hands on it in 2012.
Here is a look at what to expect from the Vita and a look at its various features.
Touchscreen – Front and Rear
The Vita is going to get the most out of its games, as it is going to be looking to offer a highly interactive environment, with which to play games. However, what is interesting is the fact that the touchpad is going to be on the screen
and on the back of the device as well.
So far, the team has gone on to show the touchscreen’s functionality on a few occasions and despite it sounding rather weird to have a touchscreen on the back of the device, it is actually quite practical.
At the moment, Uncharted is the only game to really utilize the functionality of the touch screens on the Vita. The backside is used to help Nathan Drake strafe back and forth and swing across obstacles, while the front is used to lock
onto targets.
Despite that fact, it is going to take quite some time for more game developers to come on par with this new technology and incorporate it in future Vita titles.
Cameras – Front and Rear
The Vita is going to have cameras mounted on its front and on its rare. The purpose behind this is to make the device more social, while offering the games it offers, a little extra something to use, while making them all the more interactive.
Microphone
The microphone has once again been included in the mix, to help out with the social abilities of the device. However, Sony plan on getting game developers to incorporate the microphone into their games, which is why, some games are going
to actually feature voice control commands.
CrossPlay
Some games on the Vita are going to be playable on the PlayStation 3 as well. This means that users on the two different platforms, will now be able to play against or with each other.
Dual analog sticks
As opposed to the PlayStation Portable, two analogue stick have been incorporated into the Vita. This is going to make first person games a whole lot easier on the hand held and is also going to open up a whole new area, where developers can head into, while
developing games for the device.
SIXAXIS
Sticking with the trend of motion gaming, the Vita is going to come with a built in SIXAXIS. This is going to allow users to truly get into the game on their hand held devices and allow them to experience their games like never before. The SIXAXIS technology
is the same one that has been used with the DualShock 3 controllers and has already won critics over.
Multiplayer
The Vita is going to offer a very unique multiplayer experience, as it is going to allow interplay ability between the PlayStation 3 and the Vita.
PlayStation Network Connectivity
The Vita is going to help users connect to the PlayStation Network, which is going to allow easy access to downloads, updates, themes and exclusive content, which was not previously available to users of the PlayStation Portable.
All in all, the Vita is shaping up to be one of the must buy devices and is sure to give the Nintendo 3DS a run for its money, once it hits shelves.
