What to expect in the next NBA season – NBA Feature (Part-1)
After nearly six months of depressing National Basketball Association Lockout which surrounded the league since the expiration of the previous Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) on 1st of July, the NBA owners and
players have finally reached a tentative agreement over the labour dispute.
It’s a big moment for NBA and basketball fans as they don’t have to see a complete season going down to drain. Although the regular season games have been cancelled through 15th December however, a shortened season is
still a huge blessing in disguise at a time when it started to appear that the entire 2011-2012 season will be cancelled in the wake of the decertification by NBPA.
The NBA Commissioner David Stern made the declaration last Saturday that his meeting with the former executive director of the players association Billy Hunter was successful and both have reached to a tentative deal.
"We've reached a tentative understanding that is subject to a variety of approvals and very complex machinations, but we're optimistic that will all come to pass and that the NBA season will begin Dec. 25,"
Former executive director Hunter also showed optimism that the tentative agreement will help to end the ongoing NBA lockout and stated that reaching to a deal was in the best interest for both.
"We thought it was in both of our best interests to try to reach a resolution and save the game. Once we present it (to our players) we're confident they will support it,” Billy said.
A 66-game season is aimed to start on 25th December and training camps will begin on 9th December which is subject to the beginning of the season. Now NBA owners and players have to vote for the deal to make
it official. The players however have to reform the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) first.
The news of the agreement has brought back the craze among the fans, which many analysts thought would be dimmed after what had unravelled between the player and the owners. The NBA players have cancelled most of their commitment
to prepared themselves for the season and once the routine activities of the league start, there will be plenty to cherish. Some of the major reasons, why the fans should be excited about the 2011-2012 season are narrated in the next two parts.
