  1. Most likey you won't be worked to hard are your very first day, but you will get a chance to see everyones abilitys and be introduced to new people. Have fun it's a great sport!

             Good luck

  2. I just had my first practice last week! My coach doesn't want to kill us the first week. He says all he cares about is personal improvement at the end of the season. My first day, he said try to run for 40 minutes at conversation pace. If you have to slow down, then slow down. It was really tough. I think I ended up only running 30 minutes. It made me kinda disappointed in myself but at least I didn't walk. I was just very slow lol. Then we just stretched by ourselves and could go home. The next day he told us to run this route that was about 3 miles.

  3. It will be kind of hard and after a while you will get used to it. It will take about 2 weeks until you think it's normal. What I would expect is that the first day you'll do a hard workout since that how it works for us. We did 3 minutes hard with a 3:45 minute rest and did 3-4 times of those. You'll be fine don't worry!

  4. It varies.  I went to 2 different high schools.

When I was at the first, the first day of practice was a talk, a warm up, extra long stretching and then a time trial mile.  That was so the coach could get an idea of who was where in terms of fitness.  Everyone knew it was coming and were generally pretty psyched for it.

The other school had us just do a 40 minute easy run.  Extra stretching while the coach talked and had people introduce themselves.  The coach wanted to get into the week routine (mondays were generally easy days) as soon as possible.

So yeah, call someone who was on the team last year and ask them.  It will probably be similar.

  5. well my sister is on the xc team and they have been conditioning all summer....this week was their first week of official practice. My sister, (a freshmen and one of the slower, less developed runners) is running as much as 7 miles in one day...she worked up to this during conditioning all summer.

since i do not know when your season starts or your coaches style, i cannot give you a definate answer. My guess is that you coach will be working you fairly hard due to the fact that the season is very near. if you haven't been running a lot prior to official practice, i would expect practice to be pretty hard the first week or so

  6. First of all, beginning practice will be warm up, usually about half a mile or so, then you will do stretches, after you will do drills, that help loosen up your muscles so they don't get tight. Then you will run, usually 3-6 miles a day, depending on how fast you are. After your done running, you will then do stretches again, so they won't get tight later on. After you will probably do a few sets of sprints, or speed workouts, lungees and such, and then core workout, then that will be the end of practice.

  7. A lot depends on your coach's style.  But expect to run 1.5 to 3 miles; you'll start in a pack and begin to pair off with teammates of comparable ability.   It will probably seem very hard, and you may get tired and nauseous and discouraged, and you will be sore the next day.  Almost everyone feels this on their first day of any sport.  And if you push through it, then every day after that will get easier.
