he is 8 weeks old. i feed him about 30 small crickets a day. he has newspaper substrate and the crickets hide so i take him out and hand feed him. i have been doing this for about a week and i realized that when school starts, i cant be doing this in the morning. i do not want to feed him crickets anymore. i know the other foods, but i would like a recomendation from an experienced owner. please be exact and tell me where to get them if possible.

  1. Lizards can go without food for a very long time, but like someone has mentioned let the dragon hunt for his food. Best option is to go to your local reptile shop.

Also if you use Waxworm or mealworm 's don't feed too many as it's not good for there balanced diet.

  2. You shouldn't hand feed him, even though they hide, they will come out eventually.  When I used to breed beardies, we would line the babies' tank with paper towl, easy to take out and replace.  You should also be feeding him greens daily, like dandelion greens (no spinach).  If you are anti-cricket you can try meal worms or wax worms, and most pets stores sell a canned bearded dragon food.  Since he's young, you should really try to stick with the live food, but let him catch them.  Best of luck with him!

  3. Crickets will always be fine but to mix it up wax worms, super worms, and pinkys will all be part of a healthy diet you can also buy calcium to dip your worms in as well and ive always used sand for my bearded dragons substrate, they are desert dwelling reptiles.

  4. Go to home depot buy some tiles, what is good about the tile easy clean up.   Get the large ones they run about $1 a piece get rid of the substrate completely. Buy live crickets, dust them lightly with calcium.  Fed him as much as he would eat in 15 Min's the take out the ones he does not eat. Feed your crickets potatoes skins.   Also give him greens, Kale is good.

You can also buy silk worms on-line, they are a great source of calcium.  Also get a timer for his light saves on electricity.  I had mine set for 6 am and off at 6 pm.

ALso get on line look for feeding and care sheets.

  5. It may be possible to wean him on to freeze dried crix but its highly unlikely a young beardie absolutely needs the crickets , as he gets older you can switch him over to the pellet diet offered at various pet stores but he's not nearly old enough yet.
