I am 16 and i am looking at upgrading to a bigger bike. I am about 130 lbs, and I currently have a KX100, but it doesnt have any powerband really. My friend has a 250f and i loved the powerband on it. I do mostly track with some trail riding. I am looking at getting a used bike because i have to pay for it myself. I dont know if i should go with the 125 with the higher end powerband thats more noticable or the YZ250f with the broader power.

  1. They are both equivalent in performance, but I'd take the 125 because I prefer 2 strokes over 4 strokes.

  2. I don't know how he is a top contributer he never answers questions he just leaves stupid wisecracks. I would take a 125 because two strokes are better

  3. Get the 250f, you can still get a good top speed but you'll always have that useful torque in the bottom. It's more versatile and you would probably fit on it good. Theres no point in getting a two stroke unless its a 250 or higher I know some may disagree but to me all u get with the 125 is top speed which isnt all that important.

  4. the 125 is probably more fun because its a 2 stroke. but if you race the 250 has more power and is easier to ride because it's a 4 stroke.

  5. If you are racing I suggest you go for the yz250f as they quite often have to race against the 125cc 2 strokes and the 250cc usually have the advantage.  Most riders who race are heading towards the 4 stroke 250cc due to this.  SOme of the known brands of motorbike like Honda have stopped producing the 125cc and that is part of the reason that they are not seen as much in racing.

  7. I own a 250f and previously owned a 125, i am just like you, i race hard, and do trail riding and some hill climbing. The 125 was ok for the hills and stuff because it was so light but for the track i prefer a 250f because they have lots of bottom end power and the powerband streches throught the gears, where as in a 125 you have mostly top end power. A 125 is slower, less powerful and requires more matience than a 250f ever will so if you want a bike to last you a long time get a 250f,

trust me im 16, been riding and racing dirtbikes since i was 5 years old.

  8. Wow, some folks have obviously been out of the dirt bike world for many years. There is no doubt that the 250F is a superior machine, both for motocross and trails. You will be able to get the 125 cheaper though for that very reason. The performance is not the same, and a 125 does not handle better. Take one trip to your local motocross track and see how few people are racing the 125 these days. At the tracks I frequent I may see one or two 125's in a field of 40 250F's.

  9. go with the 250f they are easier to ride more powerfull and less likely to blow . also with the 250f you can get away with being in the wrong gear as they will still pull whereas the 125  needs to be in the power and in the right gear all the time to have a chance the 250f also kills the 125 out of the gate

  10. both equal in performance , but 125 has batter handling
