What to get a 10 year old girl for her birthday?

My niece is turning 10 in a few weeks. We're not very close and have NO idea what to get her for her birthday. Any generic "safe" gift ideas?

get her a movie basket: fill a basket with candy, hot chocolate packets, micrwaveable popcorn packets, and anything else you can think of along with a gift certificate to a movie rental place such as hollywood video or blockbuster.  this is good because you can spend as little or as much money as you want, and i can gaurantee you she will love it.  this is also good because its creative, but she still gets to pick out the movies she wants to rent or buy.

My daughter just turned 10 and we got her a diary with a really cool pen.  It's a diary with a lock and key and she loves it.  They are getting at the age where they want to write their own thoughts down without anyone judging them.  I hope this helps.

Im eleven.  I would get her those nw things called webkinz.  The are this cool stuffed animal that you buy and they are a computer game online.  Its really fun!!! If she already has one you can still get her another one because there like collector toys.  They are only fifteen doallers and with that you can get her some webkinz outfits.  Good luck!!!

I always try to go for the unique gift. I'm waaay into 'stuff' that is interactive and fun and fosters some discovery and imagination. I think it's just the teacher in me. And, I have four daughters with another one on the way!

I've bought butterfly kits, where you can order the larve and feed them and then they spin cocoons and hatch into butterflies ( Walmart had this as will a specialty toy store)

I've also bought a bird feeder with bird seed, or a hummingbird feeder and then a little guide book with different kinds of birds. I think thissle seed is the most fun, that attracts the bright yellow finches.

I like to buy kites, or super duper bubble blowing stuff.

A kit where she can make her own beads with Fimo clay or another like brand.

You can always do the gift card thing and then take her shopping and out to lunch. My girls love doing stuff like that with their aunties.

i thik around that age i started to read the Clique series books. they take place with girls int he 7th grade. i found them very interesting but im not sure if she is into like the whole getting into bf/gf stage and drama. thats bascially what the books are about. look them up on google if you'd like. good luck.

trust me, she will go crazy if you get her a "credit card" from american express with like 50$ or 25$ or more money on it. she will go crazy just at the thought of it, and get even more happy the more money. trust me, it works every time.
