It depends on how close you are. If they're your neighbors,then maybe something like this:

If it's your parents or grandparents...I'd additioanlly suggest something VERY personal.  A photoalbum...maybe in a gold binder...of their years together.  A nice idea is a dvd slideshow, with a gold theme/color throughout it perhaps.  If you're handy with the computer you can easily make one yourself, if not, I'd suggest http://www.ForMemoriesSake.com  They have nice selections and even a page of software if you DO want to make it yourself.  If you're having a party, don't forget the favors...maybe miniature gold trophies filled with candies... or Gold Nugget candy bars with personalized wrappers.  Isn't there a hershey kiss wrapped in gold?    The Events Planning page of http://www.ForMemoriesSake.com has some links that might help with that as well.

Definitely make a big deal about it... seems fewer and fewer people make it to their 50th anniversary.  It's definitely something to be proud of.
