My little nephew was born no more than 2 weeks ago. For my sisters baby shower we purchased her a cherry wood change table. Though i know she was more than happy that we got her the change table i would still like to get my little nephew Emmanuel something that wasnt requested. Basically all i'm looking for are ideas of possible gifts something that would be appropriate for a new born that the average person wouldnt recieve at a baby shower.

I'm interested to see what everyone will come up with.

  1. One baby gift my son received that lasted for many years was a little silver plated bank shaped like a teddy bear, and I believe you can even get them engraved with their name and birth date.  That's something an uncle could make into a fun ritual - handing over pennies to a toddler and slowly working up to quarters over the years.

  2. A keepsake kit would be nice even tho come moms to be get these at baby showers they are still a nice gift to get. Get one that comes with a baby book,a mini photo album,First tooth keepsake box, first curl keepsake box,and foot and handprints molds. Those things rock!!!

Or if you want to get him something that most don't receive at a baby shower than I would suggest maybe a carseat that is convertable if she does not already have one...or maybe a baby bath tub/seat.

  3. At my baby shower I got gift baskets; one with diapers, wipes, lotions, body washes, etc... in it.  one with medicines in it.  one with several outfits in it.  They went from 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months, and 9-12 months ... so this was convienent.  I had people wait a month or more to send me things for my kids.  They would get diapers, which is always a plus!  Also some more special things I recieved was personalized items.  A personalized blanket for my daughter.  A personalized spoon for my oldest son.  A beanie baby that was personalized with my son's birth information.  I love personalized gifts.  They are great.  A gift that I give, whether I go to the shower or not ... is I have gotten a baby bathtub - filled it with baby bath items, baby washclothes/hooded towels, and baby toys.  Everyone who I know that I have given it to has loved it.  Another more expensive item I LOVED getting was a kangaroo jumper - Its like an exersaucer, but they can jump - safer than a Johnny jumper.  Hope this helps and congrats on your nephew!

  4. i wanted something special that they could keep forever and have to show their kids. with my first daughter when she was born i got a sliver hair brush (the baby kind) and had it engraved with her initials. and then i also got her a baby ring and for her first birthday i got her an id bracelet with her name on it. i also like the bank idea

  5. since its your nephew; i understand that you wanna get something special. 1) how about a my first piggy bank. 2) a nice picture frame with his name engraved on it. 3) a baby scrap book or a my first bedtime story book.

  6. At my babyshower everyone got me 0-3 months clothes but my baby was little and needed something to wear now so I had to buy a few newborn outfits just to fit the first few weeks.  Also, a friend who is a nurse got me Baby Tylenol, Baby Motrin, Mylicon Gas Drops, and that was such an awesome gift.

  7. A cute fuzzy stuffed animal.  Try for something that matches the theme of his room.  Some of my kids' favorite things are the stuffed animals people got them when they were newborns. They can't really have it in their crib to sleep with until they are 1 or so but I introduced them at about 6 months during playtime. (And they aren't battery-powered, a Godsend) Something else you can get that helps a new mom a lot is 3-6 month clothes or even 9 month.  People go crazy buying newborn or 0-3 month clothes, and I discovered the baby grew out of those sizes so fast that it was nice to have a couple outfits handy when that happens.  My babies have always been ready to move up to the next size long before I was ready to let go of their newborn clothes. ;)

  8. A pillow, blanket, robe, etc with his name embroidered on them.

  9. new borns you cant get them much

    clothes

play mats(with the bar going over it) i dont really know what its called

babies are amused easily and they are satisfide with a good toy

i got my neice a talking dog bear thing and it became her favourite toy

    haha

  10. The stuff I have gotten since my daughter's arrival that has been the best was socks and other clothes. People at baby showers tend to give you newborn sized clothing because it is cute and your baby can wear it right away. But I have loved that my family has bought me clothes that are 6 months and older sized. They have even gone and shopped sales for clothes that will fit my daughhter NEXT year! I love them, and I love that they think about my daughter.

Also, you could look for an exersaucer or bouncer or dangling toy/mobiles where they baby plays on the floor and can see the toys.

Good luck, and you are being such a great aunt. Good job.

  11. Since you already gave a functional gift, I would suggest giving something sentimental...a keepsake that will be kept even when Emmanuel is an adult. My grandmother had a great idea and purchased tiny silver cups for each of her grandchildren and had their names, birthdays and birth weight and height engraved on them. We all still have them, and I even did the same thing for my son before he was born.

Really anything personalized, a piggy bank,a time capsule from the day he was born or a keepsake box to store babies first curl/tooth/umbilical stump/hospital band...include a handwritten letter to your nephew telling him how much you love him, how you anticipated his arrival, some of the activities you'd like to do with him and some of the things you want to teach him when he's older.

Good luck! Maybe you could edit your question and let us know what you decide?
