What to get roommate for birthday?

we are not friends, but roomies' birthday is coming up and i want to get something. i thought of buying a cake and since i bought it, i can have some of it too. any advice?

Whether your "roomie" is male or female, treat him/her to something about which he/she is really passionate--a vintage record album, a day at a local spa, a gift certificate to his/her favorite eatery.

I'm not sure why you want to do anything for him/her on his/her birthday as he/she is not your friend.

Thats a good idea. If you don't want to get her the cake for some reason, a picture frame is always a thoughtful gift. Or a gift certificate to a clothes place she likes.

The cake is a good idea.  A gift certificate to a favorite store or restaurant.  Bath and Body Works will never let you down.  Just about everyone I know loves getting stuff from there.  Starbucks, or a favorite coffee shop, gift card, perhaps.  Or even a candle.  You can share a candle too.

if your room mate is a female i suggest scented candles, incense, a birthday card and maybe some cookies

if your room mate is a male than a favorite cd and stuff
